EMOP XII – the 12th European Multicolloquium of Parasitology
Turku, Finland, July 20-24th 2016
On behalf of the EMOP XII Local Organizing Committee, the Scandinavian-Baltic Society for Parasitology and the European Federation of Parasitologists, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to Turku and the 12th European Multicolloquium of Parasitology in July 2016.
Turku is where the Scandinavian-Baltic Society for Parasitology was founded in 1966, half a century ago. Already long before that, there were flourishing parasitological research activities within the region. Just to list some of the great names: Johan Linder, Carl Linnaeus, Johan Haartman, Peter Abildgaard, Alexander von Nordmann, Konstantin Skryabin, Agnes Sjöberg, Bertel von Bonsdorff…
Our motto “Parasites are Forever” points both to the history as well as to the future of parasitology. In the midst of our perpetual struggle against parasites, we can also pause to appreciate our adversary and how they survive and thrive.
We wish to present a comprehensive package of the contemporary research trends in parasitology, with special emphasis on the One Health concept – from the parasitic point of view. Other focus areas include e.g. food and waterborne parasites, paleoparasitology, GIS, and exotic Arctic parasitology. EMOP is a colloquium open to all parasites.
And maybe best of all: in Turku you will meet distinguished colleagues from all over the world, both old and new friends. No better place for networking!
